Issue Project 1- Miss Representation

In the video, it mentioned that media is shaping our society, such as politics, children's  thoughts and emotions. In statistics, most of the American teenagers spend 10 hours and 45 minutes on media per day, such as reading magazines, playing cellphones, watching TV, etc. The contents of media is extremely important because once people use media to spread incorrect or improper information or concept, it can greatly affect people's thoughts. For example, media nowadays, such as internet, TV, or magazines, shapes the idea of "pretty girl" as someone who is skinny, wearing less clothes, or having big breast or hip. When teenagers received this kind of information, the boys will start picking on the girls who do not reach that standards, and also, to gain boys' attention, girls will start having diet in order to be skinny but eventually unhealthy. The "pretty girl" concept also affect job opportunities for females; better-looking female has higher chance to get a job. People who easily change their appearances and blindly follow the trends are often the ones who are insecure about themselves. To solve this issue, everyone should be confidence for his or her thoughts or appearance no matter what others say. Regarding to the power of the media, it should be use properly, or else it may cause problems.
