Why are you thinking about this concentration? For now, I think my future artworks are gonna focus on human's effects on environment (or animals). I'm gonna make different animals (with different materials) that shows how the changes people made in environment persecute their lives.
I already have my thought about the first project. I'm going to use the rings on cans to build up a deer that get stabbed by a knife. The rings on cans symbolize the changes in human industrial evolution and the knife symbolize the effects that harm the environment or animals.
Paragraph 2 What do you want to do with this major?
I will want to focus on product design in the future. In the past, I wanted to do furniture design. But later on, after I have read more magazines and go to more exhibitions, I have more interests on product designs.
Paragraph 3 What projects do you think you can do next semester to show that you are interested and able to work in this area of art or design?
Basically everything in this world associates with product design. As I mention in paragraph 1, I already plan out my future project- can ring deer. For that project, I want to show people that the things that people usually are not aware of (can rings) can form an artwork.

I read the article (the link above) on New York Times. Although the article isn't talking entirely about Guillermo Kuitca, the picture beside the article attracts me hence led me search the artist on google. The pictures above are just few artworks in one of Guillermo Kuitca's series of work. The reason these artworks attract me is their different layers of works create movement and some of the colors in the artworks stands out because they are complementary colors. I like how the artworks don't seem messy with theirs complicated layers but make some parts
The artworks below is Guillermo Kuitca's artworks of Diarios seris.

Issue Project 1- Miss Representation
In the video, it mentioned that media is shaping our society, such as politics, children's thoughts and emotions. In statistics, most of the American teenagers spend 10 hours and 45 minutes on media per day, such as reading magazines, playing cellphones, watching TV, etc. The contents of media is extremely important because once people use media to spread incorrect or improper information or concept, it can greatly affect people's thoughts. For example, media nowadays, such as internet, TV, or magazines, shapes the idea of "pretty girl" as someone who is skinny, wearing less clothes, or having big breast or hip. When teenagers received this kind of information, the boys will start picking on the girls who do not reach that standards, and also, to gain boys' attention, girls will start having diet in order to be skinny but eventually unhealthy. The "pretty girl" concept also affect job opportunities for females; better-looking female has higher chance to get a job. People who easily change their appearances and blindly follow the trends are often the ones who are insecure about themselves. To solve this issue, everyone should be confidence for his or her thoughts or appearance no matter what others say. Regarding to the power of the media, it should be use properly, or else it may cause problems.

Moroso's Bouquet Chair
I really like the idea of combining flowers and furniture together. I love how he overlap and fold the cloth to represent flowers, and I also love the colors he use for each chair. Different combinations of colors for each chair, especially the lighter colors, form a comfy atmosphere for the design.

This design attracts me because of its unique modern geometric shapes and lines. I like designs that are explicit and concise and this design surely have it all.

Grace Goodhue Coolidge (Mrs. Calvin Coolidge)
This woman fascinates me by her way of looking, refined posture, and voguish clothing. The white meek dog balances the strong feeling that the woman shown thus form an elegant painting.

Amusement at Göksu
I am attract by this drawing because it gives me a peaceful and comfortable feeling when I look at it. The colors and scenery form a laid-back feeling, which make me feel very relaxing.

Bench for a Smoking Parlour
This is a very special design that has a very different and strong feeling out of the 5 designs. The weird arrangement of several furnitures forms a sofa which attracts me because it kind of makes me feel that I'm in a Gothic style of house.

Architecture and the Lost Art of Drawing
1. Main Ideas
Instead of drawing your plan out, more and more architectural people start to use computer programs to do their planing; However, drawing by hands can never be replace no matter how impressive the technology gets. Drawing is part of thought process of design and also express the interaction with our minds. Michael Graves believes that drawing can be divided into “referential sketch", “preparatory study”, and the “definitive drawing”. Referential sketch serves as visual diary or capturing an ideas. Preparatory study is progression of drawings that elaborate a design, like referential sketch, it may not represent "reality". Definitive drawing is the the most developed of the three. It's universally produced on the computer nowadays, and that is appropriate. Drawing with computer is now more and more common, but in Michael's opinion, drawing by hand stimulates imagination and allows us to speculate about ideas.
2. Interpret the meaning as to how it can apply to you and your work
I agree with the article when it mentions the importance of hand-drawing by telling us that it can help to speculate ideas. Most of the time when I have idea about my 3D artworks, I just get to work and play with the materials without drawing it; However, when I'm out of ideas, I often take a piece of paper and start to plan or jot down my thoughts. Even though I know how to use AutoCAD to do the model, I think hand-drawing can really help me quickly develop idea by sketching it out, which computer can't.
3. Evaluate what your opinion is about the opinion of the article
I think computer programs is very convenient for drawing out the 3D models when you are done planning. I can understand Michael Graves's thought about computer programs have replaced hand-drawing and change design into computed via databases, but I have to say, things draw by computer don't mean they are lack of design and the reason people use computer programs is because it's easier to use for those who can't draw precisely. For me, I often sketch my plan out so later when I'm using computer programs to draw, I won't have to redraw or redesign the whole thing over and over again.

For art's sake
I want to study art because I really like to design and I can express myself while I'm working on art works. I'm interested in product design and also advertisement design. When I was a child, I didn't really have art class in school so I often just doodling. I had participated in 3D and 2D studio last year in PAS and now in AP 3D studio art and also studio art honor. I think my 2D skills aren't that good so I really want to learn the skills. I also want to learn different computer programs because I like digital art, too. For college, I will want to study product design but I don't think I will just focus on art because I also want to learn about management.
